Remember, while it is illegal for you to lie to the police, the police are permitted to lie to you all they want. Do NOT speak to the police without an attorney and video any interaction with police.
Never forget, their overreaction and strutting, swaggering militarism is the psychological projection of how frightened and worried the ruling class is.
And the bastards oughta' be frightened and worried.
I guess I just have a wee bias against heavily armed police. Back in the late 70's on a trip to Barcelona I was shocked to see police with automatic weapons in the streets. I'm like "What are they doing?" My Spanish friends said "Ah no, they're Guardia Civil it's normal." It took me a while to understand what was going on. They were sending out a message. The Guardia Civil were the militarised police force (there's the National and Local police too) that most closely aligned with Franco's fascist regime. The message was clear, “You might have this new democracy but we are here and we have big guns.”
Oh, having seen heavily-armed cops at protest events, I don't disagree with you or want to dismiss your concern, Baz. But when you look behind the tough-guy Kevlar vest curtain, what you see is an uncertain, rickety and frightened ruling class. In the mud of all their entitlement and arrogance, they know they are one unanticipated event or unexpected protest leader or movement away from loosing control.
A legitimate, responsive government would know it has nothing to fear. The militarization of the US domestic police and their unconstitutional surveillance programs parallels the worsening situation for American citizens and our rising feelings of disgust.
The oligarchs know they are hated and they deserve to be hated and that's why they are arming up the police. I just wish police would open their eyes to how they are being duped and used to suppress and help exploit their neighbors.
I largely agree Mark - the macho gun culture of the US amplifies the problem though. In a mythical country in another part of the galaxy, all citizens would be unarmed as would the police and social cohesion would be prized above cops in Kevlar wearing shades.
By the way, also disable face and fingerprint unlocking on your phone.
American police are scary 😨

It would have to be a galaxy and culture of non-humans. Perhaps gerbils on mushrooms?
Or perhaps a species who evolved past the weapon dependency stage?
An extraordinary video – a MUST watch (Chase Gaiser & Ian Carroll)

Know Your Rights -- carry one of the cards with your rights listed on them and memorize them. It could save your life.
Thanks for that good information!
But we don't have rights.
We have privileges that we can have taken away from us the moment the Beast decides to.
