I keep hoping some talented cyber-criminals will take down the ENTIRE Trump administration, reveal all the secrets of the Epstein files, JFK files, 9/11, etc., and shut down all intelligence and aid to the genocidaires. One can dream!

Hi friends, let's embrace our humanity - who knows, we could be an unique outpost in the whole universe.

I just watched that preppy guy's vid (🫣) and it got me thinking about the *Fermi Paradox again.(*Why we haven't made contact with extraterrestrial life yet)

One idea is called the 'Great Filter Theory', it suggests that there is an extremely difficult evolutionary step that prevents most life from reaching the level of spacefaring civilisation. A catastrophic self-destruction scenario is one version where advanced civilisations consistently destroy themselves through their own technology BEFORE they can expand beyond their home planets.

If you don't mind I'm going to copy and paste this ⬇️

Potential self-destruction mechanisms:

- Nuclear warfare becoming inevitable as civilizations develop atomic weapons

- Environmental collapse from industrialization and resource depletion

- Uncontrolled artificial intelligence development

- Bioweapons or genetic engineering disasters

- Other advanced technologies that prove inherently unstable or dangerous

Implications of this theory:

If true, it suggests humanity is approaching or may have already passed through this critical filter. Some argue we're currently in the danger zone, given our nuclear capabilities, climate challenges, and rapid AI development.

Hi I'm back this is me again anyway I hope this hasn't ruined your day - other theories ARE available.

Just signing off here with the lament that evolution has brought us to this point and I'm wondering if our species has the wherewithal to swerve the filter.

Peace and Love

Baz

Thanks for adding this, Baz.

The Great Filter Theory makes a lot of sense to me. It really is stunning to see how enthusiastically self-destructive humans are right now. As the climate crisis accelerates, Trump defunds and shuts down climate monitoring and research agencies. Project 2025 calls for the renewal of above-ground nuclear weapons testing and Trump cuts federal safety monitoring of nuclear power plants.

As trillions more are funneled to Trump's pals, funding for education, Meals on Wheels and Medicaid are slashed. In a society that truly had ANY moral center and awareness of how to survive, children would be considered our most treasured resource and everything would be provided to make sure they grow to their full potential.

Instead, we live in a country that happily contributes bombs and dollars to the slaughter of children in an open air concentration camp.

And as we embark on what could well be our final fumbling adieu, most people haven't a clue or a care. Like sheep in the pen, they munch away, oblivious to what is about to happen.

When I contemplate such thoughts as the Great Filter Theory I take comfort in knowing the Earth has another 4 billion years, three of which will be suitable for life. (The expanding sun will fry the planet in that last billion.) But, hey, three billion is plenty of time for most nuclear pollution to dissipate and new species to originate. Can they side-step the Great Filter? As with so many things these days, who the hell knows...

Thanks for the thoughts, Baz.

I like your long term optimism for our planet Mark! My optimism is dampened somewhat by the acceleration of AI’s growth. When I get a moment I’ll post an interesting chat I had with Claude™️ on the subject.
