Thanks Mark, a huge moral and ethical issue which positions many with morals and ethics against those few without them. But given the apparent power of identifying the people behind the corporate extraction machine and a 'wanted' poster's implicit call to accountability, perhaps it might move the dial a bit. Or it might just make them step up the security details, which the public will pay for, either through taxation or insurance premiums. Maybe people can do a whole lot of posters of the corporate elites, not just health insurance but right across the board. Perhaps make them 'unwanted' posters.
"UNWANTED" is a nice turn, Graeme. Social shunning and disapproval could really call out the behavior and values of the entire corporate death culture and do some negative marketing. Are you familiar with the work of Adbusters? They do some great counter marketing. Can't wait to see what they do with this whole issue: https://www.adbusters.org/
Please stop referring to these things as a collective "you". I am not supporting US hegemony/terror etc. There are many of us in the US -- some at great cost and risk -- challenging what is going on. Not all Americans support what is going on and, as has been demonstrated over and over, we don't have a democracy with meaningful elections and those supposedly in power are not calling the shots. There is a growing awareness and discontent and opposition to everything in this country. The temperature is rising and that's why the corporate media is trying shush up everything.
The focus on this shooting case is important because it embodies and is a manifestation of the systemic issues. It personalizes the abstract. The support for Luigi is broad and crossing political lines. Ben Shapiro got slammed by his own right wing viewers for defending that CEO. This case is a wedge and a lever that cuts through the brain-numbing policy discussions of US corporate medicine.
In all broad national change and reform movements, the case of an individual embodies the larger issue and need for change, as Rosa Parks did for the Civil Rights struggle in the '60s. I think Luigi Mangione may be such a figure now. And given health insurance is so central and covers -- threatens -- everyone this feels like a pivot point in at least the discussion.
Absolutely, kind of amazing they don't want to be out from under the expense. Maybe they worry that it would make employees more mobile if they didn't have to worry about losing insurance. When I changed careers I had two years of having to buy insurance in the open market and in that time I was on four different plans because one insurance provider after another would go out of business or be bought up/off by another. It's all such cruel madness.
It is interesting to consider that Thoreau was a fan of John Brown, in spite of the violence of Harper's Ferry. Sometime our heroes do things we ourselves can never imagine ourselves doing, but nonetheless, their actions were necessary to grab the public's imaginations at the time. Perhaps that will be Luigi Mangione's legacy. The CEOs definitely "had it coming"!
Hey, Boris, sorry for the delay in responding. ...I have been hesitant about social media. The person who set up my website actually set up an Instagram account, but I haven't used it. My only experience with social media was Facebook and it was such a dark, ugly experience I have been hesitant to go swimming in that toxic pool again. At the same time, it would be the way to get beyond the generally agreeable Substack pod. I've done something like 380 posts and have only had to block three people. Most comments are in alignment with my position. Podding up people into groups of mutual agreement is one of the purposes of programs like Substack and all Big Tech. Atomizing groups, preventing alliances and finding issues and points of agreement is part of the control strategy of the Deep State blob. Intellectually, I know going out into social media would sidestep some of that, but -- ugh -- I keep putting it off.
Thank you. Providing a link in X to your excellent Substack articles could perhaps increase your reach without censorship supression - Matt Taibbi I think found a solution…
You're right. I need to talk with some people who know far more than me on how to do it and how to handle the vile stuff my work would trigger for some.
If I were that McDonald’s employee, I’d be looking over my shoulder. Luigi Mangione is indeed a folk hero a la Robin Hood.
“Health care” CEOs SHOULD be afraid. Very afraid. Along with the CEOs of corporations who pay their employees minimum wage and the heads of the banking cartel.
And most of all, the POLITICIANS who have allowed/ agreed to/ voted for the shitshow that Amerikkka has become.
I am hoping against hope that this is only the beginning.
And to Brian Thompson’s family: how does it feel that the entire nation is celebrating the death of your husband/ father? 😂
It is infuriating seeing the media lecturing everybody to have some compassion for Thompson's family but say nothing about the thousands of families who lost family member due to his cold blooded policies and profit scamming. Of course expecting one millionaire to have compassion for another millionaire's victims is a lost cause.
Thank you — thoughtful and timely

Thanks for the link, Mark. Looks nicely subversive. I'll check it out more closely.

MM are definitely accessories and collaborators in the crimes. Rupert Murderoch and friends would make a grand rogues gallery.
Unfortunately our entire democracy is a fraud as VI Lenin said see Imperialism the Highest Form of Capitalism published 1916
80 percent of Americans support universal healthcare but our politicians don’t care as they are owned by the oligarchs
So
I guess Revolution will come as Peter Turchin predicts
Supposedly by 2030
Ironically universal healthcare would be good for most businesses see Professor Michael Hudson

Thanks for a great article.

the next Tshirt to buy to highlight the profitability of mass death should be of the PA governor and Nikki Haley's signed bombs
and maybe al-jolani's $10m terrorist mug/shot🪓
Hi Marc, do you have an X account -- are you posting the above treasure there? Many thanks

Self defense is not violence. Read that again.
I'm loving it🤣😂🤣
