The corporate fascist powers that run the West are feeling a little unsettled. A little nervous. A tad goosey. There is a dawning awareness their power may not be as assured as they have assumed.
Oh, I think that is a huge part of it. And the emergence of the BRICs alliance and growing numbers of people who don't vote, that spreading lack of trust in institutions etc.
There's also good arguments for not voting, to undermine the legitimacy of the corporate thieves who steal the elections. The one that can't be excused is voting for corporate uniparty -- either of the two major parties.
I'm reading a great book on the corrupt election system, written by Ralph Nader's former campaign manager. She is brilliant ... and the system is even more corrupt that I imagined. We are literally third world kleptocracy status.
I have a cartoon posting in about an hour I think you will like.
I think you are right and it is why they are cracking down.
I wrote about what I think is happening as the cracks appear... "CENSORSHIP: A Glimmer Of Good News About The Bad News Of Suppression Of Speech" ...

Agreed. The censorship is becoming overt. Used to be undercover repressive but the fascists are getting concerned. Can't even kill large numbers of women and children with profitable US-made munitions anymore. What's the world coming to? Concerned deep-state fascists cheer me up. Not much else does these last couple of years.
I hear ya'. Some days are really tough, but I always remind myself that no matter how tough and exhausting it is for me that's nothing compared to what the kids in Gaza deal with every day.
The First Amendment is still a thing, in spite of all of the efforts to stuff it in a closet and forget about it. It is the ghost of Revolution past and future, given new life by the technological information revolution.
Like the printing press was for the Roman Catholic Church, the internet is a communications genie out of the bottle, and all the efforts of the powerful to control it are destined for failure now just as they were then.
Wish I could share your optimism. When the war gets hot, watch all the censorship that will happen. In the meantime, resist ... and if you find an old mimeograph machine let me know.
I watch first amendment auditors. These guys are ballsy, they’re not intimidated by the cops. They go through CBP checkpoints and refuse to identify themselves. They’ll go to town hall meetings and dress down the city’s or town’s commissioners. They only do it on public property. Mark you triggered my hamster, thinking if they can challenge our congresspeople. Thanks for sharing.
'How Starmer and His Allies Are Planning to Curtail Speech in Britain' makes for good follow-on to your post, and I give credit to Satrky for pointing out injustice to racists, especially because the bigger goal by 'Govt' is to use them to silence all - https://news.starknakedbrief.co.uk/p/how-starmer-and-his-allies-are-planning
I hope their power is diminished, and wonder if the fact that 1/3 of people around the world are boycotting Israel is helping to drive this home.

RESIST!!!
Except I always vote, and will continue to -- third party, for sure.

In America?
No.
Ralph is the Number One person Americans should listen to, but won't.

Assange lock away of journalists without trial was just the beginning.
Agreed.
