As a one-time print journalist who experienced editorial censorship, I can assure you that while Fox is especially egregious, the American corporate media does not really believe in the First Amendment and the free flow of information, ideas and opinion. Just look at the coverage, active censorship and continued misinformation of the U.S./Israeli genocide in Gaza; it’s a massive disinformation operation.

The good news is that the mainstream corporate media is failing; losing viewers, readership and any pretense or scrap of legitimacy. The good news is that online alternatives like this channel are doing well.

The bad news is that the ruling oligarchs will not tolerate that much longer. We are already seeing extensive censorship. AI will be used to choke off alternative media platforms and pathways, throwing us into a grim universe of rumor, lies, manipulation and hate. What is our next step? I’m not sure. We need to begin thinking.

Mimeograph machines?

Oh, and hold onto and pass along books. As in the Middle Ages, they may well be the only repositories of free thought and truth.
